Thank Him that hey may have been the source of providence that helped the policeman figure out the plot, that He could have helped the officer notice the oddity of the car, etc.

Yes, we humans may have gotten this one on our own, but God does provide.

And as a Christian, I do have the Bible to draw on (and as a Catholic I have a couple thousand years of scholarship and Tradition as well).

I Cor 13:9 For our knowledge is imperfect and our prophecy is imperfect;Ordinary Coloradanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17286543562079735323noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3543355.post-77147854296141969652007-06-30T00:01:00.000-04:002007-06-30T00:01:00.000-04:00"I don't remember hearing that Muslim clerics blam..."I don't remember hearing that Muslim clerics blamed the tsunami on poor religious observance"

You must of have missed that news. He began with three words, "Let us pray." In one spontaneous motion that giant mass of farmers, teachers, students, doctors, and ordinary working people fell to their knees and recited the Lord's Prayer--a corporate act of civil disobedience. Within days the protest spread to the capital city of Bucharest, and a short time later the government that had ruled Romania with an iron fist toppled to the ground."

I know that pastor. I was in Romania in 1991 just shortly after the fall of Communism fell and worked with Peter Dugulescu (the pastor) and Jesus Hope of Romania. Being with the Romanian people is not something I will ever forget.Amberhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08156167924212222773noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3543355.post-31640044950164736122007-06-29T20:02:00.000-04:002007-06-29T20:02:00.000-04:00I meant, there will always be someone somewhere sc...I meant, there will always be someone somewhere screwing up to conveniently account for whatever earthquakes, tornadoes, or hurricanes happen!ambahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12042450225428891273noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3543355.post-92073450500056119952007-06-29T19:59:00.000-04:002007-06-29T19:59:00.000-04:00I don't remember hearing that Muslim clerics blame...I don't remember hearing that Muslim clerics blamed the tsunami on poor religious observance (though I don't doubt it). But I do know that Orthodox Jewish rabbis blamed it on their own communities' failure to keep the Sabbath properly!

It sounds absurd on the face of it to picture a God who would punish Indonesians for the failings of some Jews in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, or wherever. But these guys believe that the integrity of the universe depends on their spiritual practice. The belief that human intention holds the material universe together and human disorder tears it or lets it be torn apart is almost more like chaos theory than what we ordinarily think of as religion.

It's a theory that can never be tested, because humans will never be perfectly virtuous. There will always be someone somewhere screwing up. But these Orthodox Jews were arrogant or responsible enough (I don't know what to call it!) to believe that, as the chosen people, their prayers and sins were the ones that count.ambahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12042450225428891273noreply@blogger.com
