Gracious God, on the night of His betrayal, the thoughts of our Lord Jesus were on Your
glory and on our need. He instituted Holy Communion, by which He promised to come
to us, body and blood, in, with, and under the bread and the wine, so that we might
taste and see Your goodness and so that, together, we, His people, might receive
forgiveness and life in His name.
On the same night, He gave a new commandment that
we love one another as Christ has loved us.
By the power of Your Holy Spirit, help us to
discern Christ’s presence in the sacrament of Holy Communion and teach us to love
Your Church as Christ loves it, empowering us as disciples to carry the good news of
new life for all who repent and believe in Christ to all the world; through the same Jesus
Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God,
now and forever. Amen
