Putin and the Soviet...er, Russia

We all thought that Soviet Communism crumbled and died. Not so fast there, comrade. Here are two articles, one from Saint Petersburg and the other from Great Britain, analyzing Russian president Vladimir Putin's policies and his evident desire to resurrect the former USSR, along with its repressive governance and military ambitions. I wonder what President Bush saw when he looked into Putin's eyes during this trip?

Putin represents a real threat to peace and stability. While we may have entered a post-state era, replete with globalization, border-hopping terrorists, and the Internet, some haven't gotten the word yet. That includes the leaders in places like Moscow, Pyongyang, and Beijing. They bear watching.
