Should You Get the new 'Napoleon Dynamite' DVD?
According to this review of the new special edition of Napoleon Dynamite, humbly called 'Like, the Best Special Edition Ever!,' you should only if you haven't already got the 2004 DVD release of the movie.
There are lots of cool-looking features here. Since Napoleon Dynamite has become my favorite comedy of all time--supplanting Airplane, it's tempting to, like, buy the new special edition.
But I'm going to restrain myself; Whaddya think? Gosh!

I have avoided this movie for one reason: I usually end up disliking movies that are massively hyped. "Pulp Fiction" - hated it. "Fargo" - hated it. Will "Napoleon Dynamite" be just the same? Dunno, but I'm afraid to find it.
Matt:
I didn't see it until about a year after it came out. I was skeptical, too. So many of the people who loved it were teenagers and I figured it was aimed at them.
The funny thing about this movie is that people seem to laugh at it even more after they've seen it than while watching it the first time. I've had entire conversations with people made up of us swapping lines and scenes from 'Napoleon Dynamite,' all interlaced with hysterical laughter!
I've probably watched it all the way through three times and I laughed harder the second and third viewings than the first.
Of course, there's always a chance you won't like it. But give it a rip.

ohhh, okay. See, now I understand you a whole lot better! HA This is definitely one of those love it/hate it movies - no in between. (FYI, I loved "Mars Attacks," so there's what you need to know about me.) 8-)
Jan:
Hmmm. I wonder what insights you've suddenly gained about me because of my love for this movie...and if I should be afraid.
I've never seen 'Mars Attack.' But a quick look at imdb.com shows that it's a Tim Burton film with Jack Nicholson. Sounds warped...Ohhh,okay.
Thanks for dropping by.
Blessings!

Mark,
I usually feel the same thing that Matt described -- if a film is massively hyped, I don't want to see it.
But based on your recommendation, and the fact that you say this movie is second only to Airplane (high praise indeed), I'll probably give it a try.
Buy it! Because it's my favorite thing in the whole world... other than Ligers
Peace,
Chris
Jeff:
Tell me if you like the film.
Chris:
The ligers line always cracks me up.
A few months ago, my wife and I were in Target and I found the book containing the script from the movie. My wife was looking at other things. So, there I was, standing in the book department by myself, laughing out loud at the screenplay.
