The headline links to a BBC story about the Ninki-nanka. The one in the post goes to Napoleon Dynamite because the line about the liger comes from that film. Both creatures seem pretty mythical to me.
I'm making a conscious effort to avoid seeing "Napolean Dynomite." It's one of those movies that I haven't seen because I'm afraid it won't live up to all the hype about it. I've seen two movies of recent years that were heavily hyped - "Fargo" and "Pulp Fiction" - and I thought, "that's what everyone was excited about?"
You mentioned this when I alluded to ND a few weeks ago, Matt. I've had similar experiences and was really skeptical about this film, especially since the people who kept recommending it to me were young teens. But it absolutely cracks me up!
A few weeks ago, we gathered with my folks, my siblings, and their families. We spent a good ten minutes around the dinner table just reciting different lines from the movie and laughing our heads off.
But a warning: Some of ND doesn't strike you as that funny at first. It has to sink in. Later, you find yourself remembering different parts of it and laughing to yourself. Then, when you see it again, you start to belly laugh in anticipation of what comes next.
For all its outrageousness, it still rings true as one of the best portrayals of high school life around.
Now that I've ruined any chance of your enjoying the movie for yourself, I'll close.

Your link goes to the movie "Napoleon Dynamite." Was that intentional?

Mark: I didn't realize that I had already commented about that movie. I must have a stronger unconscious desire to avoid it than I realized. Hmmm....
