I'm Skeptical
Maybe this puts me in the category of the Flat Earth Society, but I just don't see how this is going to fly, financially that is, for manufacturer or airlines.
The real question is whether spoke-and-hub is alive or dead. In the US, it's become a serious impediment to travel, and that's why Boeing is touting the 7E7 concept (which, of course Airbus is countering with the 350 series).
Overseas, however...?
There's the other question of whether Airbus could roll out a monster like the A380 without the significant government backing it's been getting.
There might be some instructive lessons in the Bristol Brabazon, Saunders-Roe Princess, Lockheed Constitution, and Convair C-99. (I'll get links for those up on Simple Desultory Dangling Conversation)
