I've been speculating about who would be Senator Obama's and Senator Clinton's vice presidential running mates.

See here and here.

My most important posts on the 2008 presidential election appeared last year. The series, How Christians Might Think About the 2008 Presidential Election is linked in its entirety here.

This is very interesting, but I cannot believe that Powell will run for any national office. I believe he could have had the nomination any time he wanted it. The country held him in high regard. Some people now feel he betrayed us when he took that position on Iraq for the President. However, people forget this was a military man first and never a political type. He did what is required of a military person to do. He stated his case (we all heard his objections) and then, when rejected, he saluted. He was completely true to who he was and what he believed was honorable. I think he did not run because his wife had strong objections and he, himself, was ambivalent. My opinion, for what it is worth, is that he will refuse any offer.
My question is that we are hearing a lot of conjecture about the Dems. on this blog, but what are you thinking about the Republicans who are split so many ways?

You're probably right about Powell, which is why I ultimately dismissed the prospect. I agree with your assessment of Powell, for whom I have tremendous respect. But I do think that if Clinton got the nomination, she would have to pick someone to give her some heft on national security issues.

I will get to the Republicans soon, I hope.
