This first was posted nine days ago, about the same time I got word through Facebook, but I wanted to (belatedly) share it here: There is good news regarding the cancer of my blogging colleague, Pastor David Wayne. Thank God! Please continue to pray for David. Read the whole thing.

David's musings about his motives for blogging, whether to glorify God or bring attention to himself, are something with which I identify. It reminded me of this song, I Just Wanna Know, in which Steve Taylor wrestled with his own motivations for being a musician, back in 1985.



Life's too short for small talk

David Wayne Update

Some readers of this blog know about blogging colleague and pastor David Wayne has been fighting cancer for over a year now. I just learned that David was taken to the hospital yesterday, following a reaction he had to a new medication prescribed for him. The reaction has been mitigated, but the reaction was obviously a bit scary. Please pray for David's healing. Thanks.

Update on Pastor David Wayne

Here is the latest on the health situation of fellow blogger and pastor, David Wayne. Please keep him in your prayers.

"Don't despise the sufferings..."

So says my blogging colleague David Wayne in this video prepared for viewing by some of his Presbyterian pastor collagues.

A few months ago, David was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer. Cancer was also found in other portions of his body.

In the video below, David talks about what he has learned, especially about the "theology of the cross," the belief that because God took on our humanity, including suffering on the cross, we meet God in our own cross experiences, which God can use to make us more Christlike, more fitted for a full life here and in eternity. As you will see, David's faith has deepened way beyond "head knowledge" in these past months. He has come to know God in a more intimate, profound, and trusting way. Thank you, David, for this!

Back in October of 2005, I attended the first gathering of Christian bloggers known as GodBlogCon. I got to know many good folks there. Among them was Pastor David Wayne, whose blog is called Jolly Blogger.

David has announced that he has just been diagnosed with cancer. You can read the details here.

I am keeping David in my prayers. His family and his congregation will also be in my prayers.

I urge you to keep David in your prayers as well.

David really is a jolly person, a man with a ready smile and an obvious love of people, clearly born of his relationship with Jesus Christ. May God bring him complete healing.

"Christians Aren't Part of the Perpetually Offended"

That's the title of a terrific post by David Wayne, the Jollyblogger.

Refusing to be offended is part of our call as Christians, a call which, I for one, too often fail to heed. I'm often so busy being religious that I fail to be Christian. We need to take our cue (and our orders) from our Lord:

[Jesus said:] “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous." (Matthew 5:43-45)
